The Albertov campus

The unique setting of Albertov, Karlov and the surrounding area is home to one of the highest concentrations of research and education in Prague and the Czech Republic as a whole. For more than a century, students, researchers and other members of the academic community from three Charles University faculties – the Faculty of Science, the First Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics – have come together here to push the boundaries of knowledge. The area is also home to university museums and collections, including the Map Collection, listed in the UNESCO register and the Botanical Garden.

Albertov is a vibrant university environment and a place for teaching, cutting-edge research, student life and collaboration across disciplines. Charles University’s largest campus in Prague offers a high-quality, modern environment for studying and working, as well as spaces for meeting and spending time outside classes and work.

Historic buildings, laboratories, lecture halls, libraries and public spaces create a unique setting where new discoveries are made and future generations of scientists are trained, while the academic community connects both internally and with the wider public. The campus hosts student events, such as the Albertov Open Air festival, as well as science outreach events open to the public, including the Researchers' Night and Prague Museum Night.

The Future of the Albertov Campus

The existing Albertov Campus will be expanded with two new buildings: Biocentrum, which is already under construction, and Globcentrum, which is ready for implementation. Both are joint projects involving all three Albertov-based faculties, bringing together students and researchers from different disciplines in their classrooms and laboratories. The new buildings will increase the number of students and staff on campus, as well as the range of activities taking place in the area.

Other projects are also strengthening collaboration between institutions in the area. These include a recently established co-working centre. The restoration of the Albertov slopes is also continuing, alongside the development of an educational trail. The campus’s ongoing development offers Charles University an opportunity to make its world of science and knowledge more accessible to the wider public.
