World-Class Science Under a Czech Roof

The Biocentrum is being established as a multidisciplinary center of excellence with a strong emphasis on research quality, international collaboration, and openness. Before it becomes operational, an international Scientific Council will be appointed. Together with the Director of the Biocentrum, it will participate in selecting suitable research groups, regularly evaluating their performance, and formulating the center’s development strategy. Explore examples of research groups proposed by the faculties for placement within the Biocentrum.

Biocentrum update: Drilling completed

The underground works at the Biocentrum site have just passed two key milestones. In recent days, the piling rig wrapped up its mission – all 267 piles are now in place. On St. Martin’s Day, the team also finished drilling the last, forty-fourth geothermal borehole.

First tower crane and other updates from the construction site

Work on the foundations of the Biocentrum building is nearing completion. Only the final piles and geothermal boreholes remain, and the first of the tower cranes – essential for the next phase of construction – now rises above the site.

Preparations for the first crane are nearing completion

Construction work on the Biocentre at the Albertov Campus is continuing at a rapid pace. By mid-October, 205 of the 267 planned piles that form the building's basic support structure had already been drilled. Meanwhile, 19 of the 48 geothermal wells required for ecological heating have been completed.

The first crane will soon arrive at the Biocentrum construction site

Foundation work continues at the Biocentrum site within the Albertov Campus. By the end of September, the construction team had drilled 156 foundation piles and completed 12 geothermal boreholes. These have already undergone outfitting – the installation of necessary pipes and reinforcement – as well as pressure grouting to ensure their strength and long-term functionality. A total of 48 boreholes will be installed.

Construction activity has resumed at the Biocentrum building site on the Charles University Albertov Campus. Following the completion of rescue archaeological research, the contractor has started work on the foundations of the building.
