Archaeological excavation at the construction site continues

In May 2024, archaeological supervision began at the Biocenter construction site. During this process, archaeological features were identified in the northern part of the site, including those from the early medieval and prehistoric periods. A masonry vaulted sewer with an inspection shaft, which once carried wastewater from the Jesuit retreat house built near the Church of St. Apollinaris between 1746-1750, was also investigated.

A rescue archaeological excavation was conducted for these and other artifacts in the area of the slope and the unbasemented part of the former canteen. Early modern layers indicate that in the 16th-18th centuries, the slopes of Albertov were used for agriculture, specifically for gardens and vineyards.
