Design Contest

In order to obtain project documentation for the construction, given the urban and historical significance of the location and the scope of the construction project, the management of the Charles University in Prague decided to hold an architectural competition, or design competition, in accordance with the Public Procurement Act and the Competition Rules of the Czech Chamber of Architects.


Pursuant to Section 102 of the Public Procurement Act and the Competition Rules of the Czech Chamber of Architects, the contracting authority, through the administrator of the Design Competition, organized a competition for the acquisition of an architectural design. Subsequently, pursuant to Section 23(6) of the Public Procurement Act, in a negotiated procedure without publication, the contracting authority appointed the contractor for all subsequent stages of the project documentation and related engineering activities.


The competition conditions were drawn up in cooperation with the Czech Chamber of Architects and a design competition was announced in accordance with the Public Procurement Act and the Competition Rules of the Czech Chamber of Architects.

Moreover, on 14 February 2017, Charles University entered into the “Agreement on the Creation of Project Documentation and the Performance of Engineering Activities” with the winner of the negotiated procedure without prior publication, the architecture studio znamení čtyř – architekti s.r.o.


Definition of the design contest

The subject of the contest is the building of contemporary, permanent facilities and socially beneficial facilities – Biocentrum and Globcentrum in Campus Albertov, in the cadastral area Prague – New Town.

The Biocentrum research will focus on exploring live systems for the purposes of human health and new biotechnologies. Globcentrum will investigate aspects of global changes, such as the dynamics of climatic changes on Earth, changes in the distribution of organisms, global dynamics of biodiversity and role of invasion species, dynamics of vegetation in old and modern landscape and distribution of species, natural risks, or changes in the use of the land.

Open, international, architectural, public, anonymous, project-based, two-round contest, called pursuant to Act No. 137/2006 Coll., on public commissions, as amended.

Timetable

July 17, 2015: the Preliminary announcement was published in the Public Tender Journal and on the sponsor’s profile page.


September 1, 2015: the Architectural contest for the design of Campus Albertov - Biocentrum, Globcentrum was published in the Public Tender Journal and on the sponsor’s profile page.


September 16, 2015: the Seminar on the design contest was organized, together with the informal meeting of the academia and the representatives of the sponsor – Information on the development of the Campus Albertov project.


January 22 – February 22, 2016: The evaluation meeting of the jury for the 1st round of the contest


July 2016: The evaluation meeting of the jury for the 2nd round of the contest


August 1, 2016: a press conference was held, where the results of the second round of the architectural design competition - Campus Albertov - Biocentrum, Globcentrum were officially published. The winner was announced.
